about

2019 was a strange time for New Pollution. With members scattered across the country at different colleges, the band was not able to play many shows that year (in fact, they only played two). By that time, the band had been reduced to drums, guitar, and the occasional backing track. However, when rapper Dritty Pope, a longtime friend of the band, invited them to play at his annual block party music festival, their luck turned around. That day, after sets from Earth Dad, Steel Wolf, and various other performers, New Pollution took the stage to play five songs of confused and unserious rock (?) music. “Close the Door” and “Come Together” were older standards from the band’s basement days, while “Stop Stopping Me” made its third public appearance, this time with two percussion players. “Psycho Killer” and “What’s Going On” were chosen after a year of playing them at local cafes and bars. The overall satirical and ironic atmosphere of this performance was indicative of the time in which the band found itself, between two roads and two different sounds.
